Geoboard Fun

Daddy had to put his noggin to use last night to create a Geoboard math manipulative for Jack to use today. (Yes, he skipped church to get this done but he knew we needed it today although he did tell me to look more ahead so he could plan for things like this...this coming from the man who teases me about all my lists and schedules...HA!) We didn't use one with Maddie in kindergarten and I wasn't sure where to look for something like this here in town so I showed John a picture of what we needed. He found some scrap wood in the garage (imagine that...tee hee) and cut it into a square and then rounded up 144 nails to put 1" apart in all directions creating a 12 x 12 grid. Today Jack used it in school to create squares and rectangles. For those of you who don't know what purpose this has (like myself) here is a description I found online: Develops students understanding about geometry, measurements, angles, perimeter, data collection, algebraic formulas, and rational and irrational numbers. So, in kindergarten they use it to make shapes. To see the pictures better, you can click on each one.
