Today is daddy's 40th Birthday. A few weeks ago I asked him what kind of cake he would like and he jokingly replied with "I want a monkey cake." Since he never really answered my question, I decided to figure out how I could make a monkey cake and after searching the Internet for ideas, I found one like the one above that was made with an actual pan shaped like a monkey. Since I knew I would probably never make this monkey again, I felt it would be a waste to purchase the pan so I decided to give it a whirl using 3 different sized round cake pans. IT WORKED! Daddy and Jack are out of town together today (he is required to take his birthday off from work as an "extra" vacation day each year) which afforded Maddie and I the opportunity to have fun. Maddie actual mixed the cake batter entirely herself including breaking the eggs without getting any shells in which I am sure will make daddy extra happy...tee hee. While Maddie was having her classes this morning, I decorated the monkey. We can't wait for daddy to get home later today and see it! :o)
