We finished up our first quarter of school last week. Both of our kids are doing awesome! Jack is reading well and he does very good with math. It is his favorite subject so we save that for last every day. We are not using BJU Homesat with Jack and I am actually teaching him one on one like I did with Maddie in kindergarten. He just worked to fast and was getting bored waiting on the teacher to teach. He picks up on things so quick.
Maddie is doing great with using BJU Homesat and is cruising right along with school. She loves Heritage Studies most and learning about the kings and queens. She was shocked to find out that not all castles are grand and glorious, most are ugly and cold and that not all princesses had everything they wanted...tee hee. I love listening to her Heritage Studies classes as well. I too am learning a lot! John and I have a routine figured out for getting everything taped for each class We tape a week block of each class at a time and they follow a weekly schedule so the down side is that we have to be here to switch tapes but the upside is that I can be free to get things done while she has school. We are taping a week ahead of what we are actually watching for classes for the week. Here are Maddie's grades for the quarter:
Reading 94%
English 92%
Handwriting 96%
Math 98%
Spelling 98%
History 100%
Spanish 100%
Bible 100%
Homesat also has college courses and all other grades on it's networks which we can view at no extra charge. The other night John and I were listening to a high school biology class while we worked on a project...we learned all about chromosomes and their make up. :o) We are actually all benefiting from the $40 a month we pay to have it...not just Maddie. It is way cheaper than private school and keeps us together as a family. All of us love to watch channel 4 on Homesat...the movies, Shakespearean plays (Maddie watched King Lear not too long ago and was glued to it), other student written plays, cooking show, and craft shows just to name some of things on there. I still have to prepare classes every evening for the next day, but homesat makes it a lot easier and Maddie gets to have 4 teachers teaching her rather than just mom. :o)
Wonder of BJU would pay me for promoting their stuff???? Hummmmm.....
