That's Our Girl!

Today we had to get Maddie's replacement pair of glasses (she broke them last Friday morning a week ago and was wearing her old ones which are not as strong) and the gal who was helping us got tickled at Maddie. She started out by asking Maddie if she was a princess and of course Maddie said yes. Then Maddie, being our queen of talk, starts telling her "I am now that I have my family. You see, my birthmom, Crystal, couldn't take care of my brother and me anymore so these people, my mom and dad now, took me and cared for me and made me a princess." (ok, so here I am, the mom, getting choked up...) The gal just listened intently and told her "wow, you are not just any princess, you are a special princess chosen specificially by your mom and dad!" Of course Maddie once again agreed. Then the gal said to her "did you not have school today?" (we get that question a lot but my kids always handle it well.) Maddie said "well, my mom homeschools me and my brother so we will have to make up today tomorrow." The gal said to Maddie "So, you are really a special princess then if your mom not only stays home but also teaches you!" And again, Maddie agreed. Then the gal said "well, I have princess too and she will turn 18 next month. You never are too old to be your mom and dad's princess. She doesn't have a prince yet though. She hasn't met anyone who treats her the way a princess should be treated." Maddie, totally intent on this conversation and being so grown up says "Well, God has a prince for me and someday he will help us meet and we will marry and have lots of babies." The gal just gleamed and said "You are very smart! Waiting for God is a very good thing and will save you a lot of heartache." Then Maddie, knowing daddy was the first man mommy ever dated and kissed says "My mom would have to agree with that. Daddy was her first love and her first kiss and they seem pretty happy so I won't date a boy til I am ready to get married. My mom was 24 when she met my dad." The gal just sat there listening and said to Maddie "you remember that and one day you will marry that prince and have lots of babies. You are a very smart girl!" Then Maddie says "Well, I think I am smarter than a 5th grader actually." ;O)

What a wonderful daughter we truly have. She is such a little testimony to those around her even when we don't think she is old enough to grasp such concepts. And yes, mommy and daddy are very happy together and mommy is very thankful she didn't date til after college and saved her first kiss for daddy... No regrets from the past, that is for sure! :o)
