Aresenal Island

Our final stop for our "in our own backyard" vacation was Rock Island Aresenal. It was a reminder to us of how many families have loved ones overseas fighting for our freedoms and it afforded us an apportunity to talk to our kids about our country and why we have so many freedoms. Maddie said she wanted to be in the military and fight and John and I explained to her that we didn't feel God would want a lady to actually fight in combat BUT that she could serve in other ways as maybe a nurse or as the wife of a military person. At first she didn't quite understand but we told her that God created women to help the men. When he created Adam, he saw that Adam needed a helper suitable, not someone to battle for him. I think she finally started to understand because she said "so that means I can't be president either?" HAHAHAHA We agreed. :o) As a mom, it would scare me to have a child of mine in a combat zone and yet I know that if the Lord calls them to do that, whatever happens will all be a part of his plan for them and doing what God calls you to do is where true joy and happiness is found. Anyway, here are some pictures from our adventure on Arsenal Island.

This is a Red Fox that we saw while driving around the Island. He didn't seemed to worried we were there.
