Weekly Update

Not a whole lot has happened this past week...pretty calm except for a couple things. Last Sunday afternoon was spent in the E.R. with Maddie needing a brains scan as she hit a door pretty hard at church while playing tag with the other kids. The good news is we now have proof she has a brain and the best news is that there was no bleeding on her brain.

The other event was a quick moving storm through the Quad City Metro area last Thursday night...It was in an out of town in about 10 mins packing a punch of 75 - 80 MPH winds which uprooted a lot of trees in the west end of Davenport. The kids and I were nosy so on the way to the Fairmont Street Library, we checked out the fallen trees and downed power lines. It was so funny because Maddie said "Wow! It really looks like a tornado hit here!" I explained to the kids that it was just very fast straight lined winds that uprooted the trees. Jack then said "Yah, Maddie, it was straight winds and not the curly kind!"

Thursday morning we were actually down in Burlington to see my folks and do some shopping. We went to Applebees for lunch there (my mom had a gift card that was given to her for some work she had done) and Jack was "flirting" with the server and she was really playing into his hand. When we left, we had Jack hand her the tip and she looked at him and said "This is for me? Did you write you phone number on the money so that I can call you later?" Jack just grinned and said "Nah, I can only talk to you here!" She replied "Oh, I see how you are!" and of course we all laughed.

It amazes me how social my kids are and how much they love to talk to adults as well as kids their own age. I was never that bold as a child and in fact was very shy....(I know, that is very hard to believe now, but trust me, I would have rather hid under a rock than talk to an adult at age 6.) God is so good...He is always wise in what He does. He has provided a way for us to homeschool and continues to meet our financial needs (sure, we have a lot of wants...but in the big scheme of things, those things don't really matter) so that I can stay home with our kids. So many times we have had to pray that God would give us peace that the bills would be paid and then sit back and watch John get extra opening charges or watch as the clearance racks are full of items just the right size for the kids for the next year so that we can stock up (today I bought 15 pairs of jeans for Jack for $30 for next year at JCPenney, saving $195 and what he doesn't wear will sell for 4 x's more than I paid for them at Vintage Baby - that is God at work in our behalf). What a blessing to know that God will always meet our genuine needs. I am so thankful that I had a mom, grandma, and aunt Mary who taught me how to live within our means and who taught me many things like sewing, cooking, cake decorating, crafting, and other things. Necessity is truly the mother of invention at our house and our kids get to figure things out hands on! :o)
