Today we had some very rough weather around us. Tornados touched down in Grandview, Fruitland, Muscatine, Maquoketa, and Belleview Iowa. The storm dumped heavy rains on us here in Davenport and the kids, Sandy, and I did head for cover in the basement although the thought of all the bricks caving in on us does make me very nervous while down there.... While in the basement, Jack was praying "Dear Lord, I don't want to die. Amen. Oh, and Lord, I want to be safe too." Then when it was past, we came upstairs and began watching the storm coverage on our local NBC channel. It was awful! The hardest hit was Fruitland and Grandview. Homes completely destroyed, businesses gone, city hall gone...you get the idea. When John got home, we drove down to Muscatine to see what we could see. The above pictures are from our adventure. Power lines were down all along the Muscatine Hwy 61 bypass and power was out for many people. The upper left hand picture was from a rooftop chiller that had blown off the roof of Walmart and landed on a truck. There was glass throughout that are of the parking where many cars had lost their windows. The upper right hand picture was taken at the Toyota dealership across from the Holiday Inn in Muscatine. Most of the cars on the lot had no windows left in them. Applebees behind the dealership had windows out also. The McDonalds also had some pretty good damage as well (when Jack saw the footage on the TV of the McD's, he was in a panic. He said "Mama! I sure hope my nuggets aren't crushed!") The last two pictures are of Curry Trucking where Business 61 splits at the Muscatine Bypass. Just piles of debris and obliterated buildings....It was a mess for sure! We also so a lot of roofless homes but couldn't get close enough for pictures as the roads were blocked by down power lines. We were very thankful that the Lord allowed that storm to head pretty much straight north. All we had was a wet basement...nothing unusual for our 117 year old home...
