You Light Up My Life....

Maddie has a very fun reading class this year. We continue to homeschool using BJU Press Homesat DVD's which provide us ideas for many activities. The theme for reading this year is Old West so they incorporate that into the lessons. She used a Chamois cloth to make a cover for her journal the 2nd day of school last week. Yesterday she made a lantern by taking a soup can, froze water in it (to keep the can from collapsing), used a large nail and hammered a design (she chose heart) into the can along with holes for a wire handle. After the ice melted, she put the wire handle on and place a tea light in the bottom of the can. She then had to have an adult light the tea light and she was impressed how the light shown through the holes she had made to make the heart appear brighter. Here are some pictures of her lantern:
